Ribbon Tree

A funky design made especially for a good patron of Nature’s Petal. Inspired by the ribbon tree made by David Stark for the State Department.

Field Trip: Philadelphia International Flower Show 2010

Jan, Juil and I took a field trip to Philadelphia to see the International Flower Show. Even though I got there early in the morning, the convention center was jam-packed with people of all ages. Half of the showroom showcased massive floral display while the rest was reserved for prize winning plants, smaller arrangements and the marketplace.

This is one of my favorite exhibits (“Box” by MODA Botanica) which was also awarded Best in Show. The graffiti covered shipping containers held striking displays that literally has you stop in your tracks and takes your breath away. I think I stood in front of the all-white display for a good 5 minutes ignoring all the elbows of visitors poking my side who wanted to get a better view.

I was really glad to come to this flower show and can’t wait to see what they have in store for next year. It was worth the trek down to Philly to witness these larger than life displays. Field Trip: NJ Flower & Garden Show

This past weekend, Jan and I headed over to Edison NJ to see the 8th Annual NJ Flower & Garden Show. It really made me wish winter was over because seeing all the bright colorful flowers was so refreshing. Jan got so much inspiration from the show, especially the simplistic style of the Japanese ikebana arrangements. Here are some photos from the show.

* An example of an ikebana arrangement.

* An award winning arrangement. Look at all those ribbons!

* I heart succulents.

* An unusual orchid.

* Colorful leaves.

* Beautiful amaryllis.
